Michelle Cummings, Teachers Pay Teachers Ed Tech Keynote Speaker Education Teacher Resources

Hello, I’m Michelle Cummings,

an educator, consultant, author, and speaker, with extensive experience in PK-12 education and ed tech. I taught secondary English and social studies in the United States and Switzerland. As an administrator, I served as an elementary principal, high school principal, and assistant superintendent before moving into education technology as the Chief Academic Officer at Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT).

TPT is the world's largest online marketplace of educational resources, used by 85% of teachers in the U.S. In my role, I served on the senior leadership team, reporting to the CEO, and led the Education, Content, and Insights (ECI) team. The ECI team was a force multiplier, working cross-functionally to center the needs of students, educators, and administrators in all aspects of the organization. I brought subject matter expertise to daily operations, created partnerships and positioned TPT as a thought leader in the field.

As an administrator, I led high-performing teams to improve student achievement, develop staff, teachers, and leaders, and cultivate community and industry partnerships. The School Superintendents Association’s (AASA) recognized my work with the National Women in Leadership Award which recognizes educators whose talent, creativity and vision are exemplary.

I earned a B.A. at Brown University and an Ed.M. at Harvard Graduate School of Education. In my career, I champion the power of educators and technology to uplift the lives of students and address local and global challenges. I updated The First-Year Teacher’s Survival Guide, 5th edition because teachers change the world and deserve lots of support to be successful. This comprehensive book provides the strategies and tools teachers need, not just to survive, but to thrive in the profession.

Born and raised in New Orleans, I now reside in New York City, enjoying all that the City has to offer and finding joy and wonder in nature, travel, and photography.

“Thank you Michelle Cummings for opening up valuable space on my bookshelf. This is THE single book I will share with all of my new teachers, mentors, and administrators. Both a practical guide, and a trusted friend, this book feels like a warm, weighted blanket to calm the anxieties of new teachers and those who support them.”
